Buget Friendly Smartboard - Make Your Own for $50!

I found this earlier today when I was looking into assessment strategies using smartboards. My current classroom doesn't have one and I am going to try to make this after spring break. I'm so excited to try it!! Neither one of the videos would upload directly onto the blog so you'll have to follow the links. The TED video shows how the technology works and gives you a general idea of how to build it yourself. The youtube video gives more detailed step by step instructions.

Here is Johnny Lee's website where you can download the software to have an instant smartboard anywhere you want one!

  1. First of all, TED has some really amazing stuff!! Second, since my kids don't have one, I wonder if my nieces and nephews would notice if one of their wiimotes went missing. This is a terrific idea. johnnylee makes it seem doable. Keep us informed and let us know how "easy" it is to make the white board. Thanks for posting this. (Something i might actually use.)

  2. WOW, you are seriously going to try and make one yourself? That is awesome! I think the smart boards are great, but I am still trying to work out kinks and learn new ways of how to use them in the classroom setting. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

  3. I can't wait to hear how this goes. You are amazing to attempt it - I am not very mechanical so it sounds impossible to me. I'm one of those people who thinks something is broken on the projector until a student points out that I haven't turned the thing on... But smart boards are cool enough that I can imagine going to great lengths if I didn't have one in the classroom.

  4. The idea to make your own smart board sounds great! I looked at your links and it actually looks doable. I might try to do that, too. Thanks for that post!
